Green Dragon Internal Arts
Dr. Matthew Weston, DMQ (China)
Practitioner Of Traditional Chinese Medical Qigong

My History

I began my formal study of the Internal Healing and Martial Arts of Ancient China in 1990 with Dr. Jerry Alan Johnson at the International Institute of Medical Qigong located in Pacific Grove, California, USA.

Simultaneously and of no less importance I also began my peer counseling and psycho-emotional healing training with Fred Jealous, M.A. at the Breakthrough Men’s Community also located in Pacific Grove.

In September of 1997 I began travelling to mainland China to further my studies. I wanted to return to the source of knowledge that I had become so deeply involved in.
During that first trip I was fortunate enough to study Chen Family Taijiquan with Zhang Yufei who was, at the time, the top disciple of renowned Chen Family Taijiquan master, Feng Zhiqiang.
On that same trip, I earned my first Medical Qigong certification from the World Health Organization’s, International Acupuncture Training Center located in Beijing.
Back in the USA, in September of 1999, I received my Medical Qigong Therapist degree and soon thereafter, in March of 2000, I earned my Master of Medical Qigong (MMQ) degree from the International Institute of Medical Qigong.
I continued my studies in Neijia Gongfu (Internal Style Martial Arts) and in October of 2000, was promoted to Shifu (Master Instructor) in Zheng Manqing’s (Ch’eng Man-Ch’ing) style of Yang Family Taijiquan.
In September of 2002 I was promoted to Shifu in Jiang Rongqiao’s “original” system of Baguazhang.
On a very auspicious trip to China in the spring of 2004, while in Beijing, I was introduced by a dear friend and colleague to renowned Internal Healing and Martial Arts master, Duan Zhiliang. The short time spent studying with Master Duan came at a significant time and made deep and lasting impressions upon me.
Master Duan’s observations and counsel were critical in deepening my knowledge of the principles of Taijiquan, Baguazhang, Neigong, Tuina and Qigong healing. Master Duan honored me with certification of instruction in Internal Martial Arts and awarded me USA representative status for his school, the Yahweh Primordial Chaos Martial Healing Center, Beijing, China.
On that same trip I also received Advanced Medical Qigong training from Dr. Han Bin at the World Health Organization’s, International Acupuncture Training Center and received certification in Advanced Medical Manipulation (Tuina) from The Massage School of the Beijing Massage Hospital.
Also during that trip we travelled to the famous Daoist monastery at Qingcheng Shan in Sichuan province.
There we were introduced to Abbott Zhang Mingxin with whom my interaction proved to be most profound furthering my interest in the Water Methods of Daoist Internal Alchemy.
The combination of time spent with Master Duan, Abbott Zhang and the entire series of events that took place in concert with this particular journey to China lead me into deep and profound personal realizations. These, in turn, lead me to the ultimate adoption of, the Water Methods of Qigong and Neigong.
In 2005 I again travelled to China and returned to Qingcheng Shan to further my study of Daoist Internal Alchemy.
I also travelled to Longhu Shan in Jiangxi Provence where I, amongst friends and fellow Daoists, became ordained as a Priest in the Zhengyi sect of Daoism.
I became a 66th Generation Disciple of the Tianshi Pai (Celestial Master’s sect) on the memorable occasion of Longhu Shan Monastery’s 900 year anniversary.
While I temporarily curtailed my travels to China after becoming a father in 2005, my personal journey has continued. After aiding a colleague in his presentation of a three year Medical Qigong Doctoral Program, I became a Doctor of Medical Qigong in March of 2009. I earned certification (No. 9824368) from the Beijing Western District Medical Qigong Science and T.C.M. Research Institute of Beijing, China.
My very same friend, brother and colleague inducted me into the Quanzhen branch of Daoism as a 22nd generation Disciple of the Longmen Pai (Dragon Gate sect).
During June and July of 2010 I travelled to Canada to participate in the last Chaoyi Fanhuan Qigong (CFQ) seminar to be presented in Halifax, Nova Scotia by Master Yap Soon-Yeong himself.
It was a great honor to study directly under Master Yap who is a world renowned healer, qigong master and founder of Chaoyi Fanhuan Qigong (CFQ). I was most honored to become certified to teach Level 1 CFQ which has now become my own primary Qigong practice. CFQ is straightforward, precise and frankly the most effective healing Qigong system I have ever encountered.
